In Arizona, as supporters eagerly awaited the first of two appearances in the state scheduled ahead of Tuesday's primary, critics holding signs blocked a roadway leading to the town of  Fountain Hills.

Protesters, including those representing groups opposed to Trump's hardline immigration stance, shouted slogans like "Donald Trump, shut it down, Phoenix is the people's town" as traffic piled up behind their human blockage.

However, the march took a chaotic turn as a protesters unexpectedly flooded streets and blocked traffic as they made their way toward Trump Tower.

According to CBS New York,  the protest was organized by the group Cosmopolitan Antifascists.

The group's Facebook page advertised the event with a poster reading, "Crush Trump: A Rally Opposed to Hatred".
