Girl, 7, Tragically Killed When Bouncy Castle is Swept Away By High Winds
Tragedy struck at an Easter fair in England on Saturday when a sudden gust of wind swept Summer Grant to her death.
Tragedy struck at an Easter fair on Saturday when a bouncy castle was swept into the air and then smashed back to earth, killing a 7-year-old girl inside.
Summer Grant was celebrating the holiday with her family at the Harlow Town Park in Essex, England when a gust of wind took the inflatable attraction airborne.
The castle flew 500 feet before tumbling down a hill in the fairgrounds. Summer was rushed to a hospital but couldn't be saved.
"It was a freak gust of wind that caught everyone unawares. It actually pulled the safety stakes out of the ground," Ray Smith of the Showmen's Guild of Great Britain told reporters. "Everyone here is absolutely devastated, in fact everyone in the fairground industry is shattered by this.
"It's so appalling that this little girl came to have a lovely day out with her family and lost her life."
Investigators moved quickly after the shocking mishap.
Police on Sunday arrested a 27-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman on suspicion of manslaughter by gross negligence. The suspects are believed to be employees of the company that owns the bouncy castle, Sky News reports.
The girl's grieving mother, Cara Blackie, called Summer "a bright beautiful and most loving little girl."
"It is so unfair that you have been taken, it just doesn't make sense. I'm truly heartbroken," she said.
A fundraising campaign has raised several thousands to help support the family.
