Police Lieutenant Arrested After Drunkenly Punching, Headbutting Woman: Reports
Lt. Joe Santiago was arrested after a night of bar hopping when police say a woman said something he didn't like.
A Florida police lieutenant found himself on the wrong side of the law this weekend after police say he drunkenly headbutted and punched a woman.
Lt. Joe Santiago, 49, of the Sanford police department was arrested early Saturday and charged with felony battery after a woman told police he headbutted her at a bar after she said something he didn't like, WFTV reports.
According to a police report, the arrest was made after 5:45 a.m. after Santiago had been out barhopping in Daytona Beach into the early morning.
The woman told police Santiago also punched her in the nose, causing blood to gush from it.
Santiago reportedly smelled of alcohol when he was picked up and refused to answer any questions without an attorney present.
The victim was taken to an area hospital to be treated for her injuries.
Santiago was ordered held without bond. It was unclear on Saturday afternoon if he had an attorney.
According to Santiago's LinkedIn profile, he's been with the Sanford police since 1998.
A message left with the Sanford police media office was not immediately returned Saturday.
