Ted Cruz Learned About 'New York Values' The Hard Way
He tried to clarify his 'New York Values' comments but it may have been too late.
Ted Cruz held an event in The Bronx and received a less-than-impressive turnout.
The Texas Senator only managed to get less than 100 people in the borough on Wednesday afternoon for a rally ahead of the April 19 state primaries.
On Good Morning America on Thursday, Cruz tried to explain what he meant when he referred scornfully to "New York Values" during one debate, which may be the reason for his poor turnout.
"Let me be very clear. The people that I was talking about are the liberal New York Democrats who have hammered this state. It is people like Mayor Bill de Blasio. It is people like Governor Cuomo," Cruz said.
On Thursday morning, local papers like the New York Daily News let their feelings known about Cruz on their front cover.
Cruz had a hard time in New York this week. On Tuesday, students from Bronx Lighthouse College Preparatory Academy threatened a walkout if Cruz made an appearance at their school. The senator was uninvited, according to reports.
Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. called the GOP candidate a “hypocrite.”
According to the Daily News, the borough president said: “Ted Cruz is a hypocrite. He not only offended New Yorkers, he offended Bronxites, and now he’s here today in New York and in the Bronx looking for money and votes.
“We in the Bronx know how offensive he’s been. We know the truth about our borough.”
New York City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, who represents the 8th district of The Bronx took to Twitter to slam Cruz.
