Michael Strahan Will Part Ways With Kelly Ripa to Join Good Morning America
Michael Strahan will leave LIVE With Kelly and Michael in September.
Michael Strahan is saying goodbye to Kelly Ripa.
The NFL great- turned-daytime-TV charmer announced on Tuesday he'll be departing LIVE with Kelly and Michael in September.
ABC viewers won't lose him altogether, however. After doing occasional stints on Good Morning America for the last couple years, the 44-year-old has been given a permanent position on the show.
ABC News President James Goldston announced the move Tuesday.
"Over the past two years on GMA, Michael’s proven to be a tireless and versatile broadcaster with an incredible ability to connect with people, from veterans and all kinds of newsmakers to a host of modern American cultural icons," Goldston said.
Goldston said LIVE will begin its search for a new co-host in the fall.
In a post that preceded the announcement by a few days, Strahan posted a photo of himself alongside George Stephanopoulos, Amy Robach and Robin Roberts on the GMA set with this message:
"As you can see I'm excited to be back to the family at GMA! George is ready to go! Haha."
Strahan also thanked Kelly and the rest of the LIVE team.
“My time with LIVE with Kelly and Michael has been transformative, and my departure will be bittersweet. Kelly has been an unbelievable partner, and I am so thankful to her and the entire team. I am extremely grateful for the amazing support I've received from all of the fans," he said.
As of Tuesday afternoon, Ripa had not commented.
The football Hall of Famer will keep his side gig as co-host of NFL on Fox on Sundays.
