Cop Once Honored as Hero Slapped With DUI Charge While Awaiting Assault Trial

Eugene Donnelly, 29, was already charged in an alleged 2014 drunken assault when he crashed into three parked cars early Sunday, cops say.
An NYPD officer who was honored as a hero before police say he drunkenly broke into a woman's home and assaulted her in 2014 has now been slapped with DUI charges.
Police say Eugene Donnelly, 29, crashed his vehicle into three parked cars Sunday before his own vehicle rolled over, police said.

Donnelly had to be helped out of his car when police arrived after midnight, PIX 11 reported. He was not injured.
Police say they arrested him after pulling him from his overturned Audi and smelling alcohol on his person.
In June of 2014, just hours after he received the Police Combat Cross — the NYPD's second highest award — for taking down a suspect who shot at him while he was off duty, Donnelly allegedly broke into a woman’s Bronx home and assaulted her.

Donnelly is still facing misdemeanor assault and burglary stemming from the alleged 2014 incident. He has entered a not guilty plea.
In March, Donnelly's attorney, Michael Marinaccio, told the court that his client wasn't drunk during the alleged 2014 burglary, but was actually asleep.
"Our report shows that it wasn't an alcoholic blackout. It was sleepwalking," Marinaccio told the court.
After his arrest Sunday, Donnelly was charged with DWI and DWAI. He was released on his own recognizance.
Donnelly is due back in court for the assault case in June, records show.
