Rape and Murder of Girl, 15, Allegedly Captured on Boyfriend's Cell Phone: 'I Don't Want to Die'
A 15-year-old Texas girl's last words were captured on her boyfriend's cell phone, revealing the teen's pleas to the boy to let her live, authorities said.
A Texas teen's desperate last words were captured on her boyfriend’s cell phone, revealing the teen's pleas to the boy to let her live as he allegedly raped and murdered her, authorities said.
Karen Perez’s partially nude body was found Monday night stuffed in a cabinet under a sink in an abandoned South Houston apartment, officials said.
When the 15-year-old South Houston High School student vanished Friday, her family asked police to pay a visit to her boyfriend, who drove around with his father to search for the girl, according to court documents viewed by KTRK-TV.
But the 15-year-old boyfriend, whose identity has not been made public, allegedly told his dad to take him home because she wasn’t alive. The boy’s father contacted the city of South Houston Police Department.
Prosecutors said text messages were found on the boy’s phone that were sent to Perez demanding she skip school Friday and meet him by the tennis courts, KTRK-TV reported.
If she didn’t, the suspect allegedly wrote that he would kill her and her life would “end on bloods.”
Perez and another person were seen on surveillance footage at a nearby restaurant later that day. It was the last time she would be seen alive.
Audio from a video allegedly taken on the boyfriend’s cell phone captured Perez being forced to have sex with the suspect, who called her by name.
As Perez said she didn’t want to have sex, the boyfriend began choking her, prosecutors said.
“I don’t want to die,” Perez allegedly cried out before she was killed.
Before he was arrested in Perez’s murder, the boyfriend is believed to have posted on Facebook asking his friends to help find his girlfriend.
“If anyone seen my girl or anything (please hit me up) she haven’t (sic) made it home,” he wrote.
His account has apparently been deactivated since his arrest.
Grieving family and friends also took to social media to express their sorrow over the loss of Perez, who they described as a beautiful and sweet girl.
“Prayers for the family of this angel may she rest in peace,” one person wrote on a GoFundMe page created to offset funeral costs for Perez.
Another person wrote: "May her death bring awareness to dating violence. Love should be free of pain."
Mourners gathered together Wednesday at her Perez’s football field to pray and release pink balloons – her favorite color—in her honor.
"Thank you … everybody that came and showed support, Karen will forever be in our hearts, rest in peace my love," a loved one wrote on Facebook after the event.
The boyfriend was charged with murder and is expected back in juvenile court Thursday.
