A Night to Remember: Cops Escort Girls Without Fathers to Annual Daddy-Daughter Dance
The Chicago police officers stepped in and escorted young girls without fathers to the annual "Daddy Daughter Dance."
"It began last year when my co-worker and I came up with the idea," Officer Claudette Knight told InsideEdition.com. "The dance was to not only bring fathers and daughters together but also to build relationships between the community and the police."
The much-anticipated event began with a waiting list and the venue was quickly filled to capacity. More than 150 girls were in attendance, doubling the amount of attendees to last year's event.
Other sponsors, such as the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives, contributed to the special event.
Formal gowns were presented to the young ladies to go along with the “All Shades Are Beautiful” theme.
“We wanted to express that no matter what, you are beautiful,” Officer Knight said.
“The girls really benefitted from the event,” said Officer Knight. “Not only did they enjoy a great night, they gained amazing male role models.”
