Shocking Video Shows Kidnapper Snatching Girl, 4, as Her Mother Stands Feet Away: Cops

A California man has been arrested for allegedly trying to drag a girl out of a cell phone store with her mother closeby.

Shocking video shows the moment police say a man attempts to snatch a little girl as her mother stands just a few feet away in a California cell phone store.

In the startling July 1 surveillance footage from a Victorville mobile phone store, the suspect's arm is seen reaching in through the front door just after a woman entered with her infant and 4-year-old daughter.

The suspect then yanks the 4-year-old girl from where she stood near a candy machine by the door.

The mother of the victim was heard screaming by several nearby people who saw the suspect running from the scene and chased after him, according to a release from the Hesperia Police Department.

With her baby still in her arms, the mother also takes off for the suspect, as does a man in line in front of her in the store.

According to police, the alleged kidnapper — identified as 24-year-old Hesperia man Terry Ransom — lost his grip on the girl as she struggled to get away outside the store.

The startled and upset little girl did not appear to suffer any physical injuries, police said.

Meanwhile, witnesses told CBS Los Angeles that the suspect proceeded to sit in traffic and laugh after the bizarre incident before getting up again and trying to flee.

Several deputies responding to the call immediately searched the surrounding area. The suspect was located near the scene and detained without incident, police said.

Ransom was evaluated at a local hospital and later booked at the High Desert Detention Center on charges of kidnapping and child cruelty.

A spokesperson from the Victorville Police Dept. told that Ransom has an "extensive history of arrests" but nothing that involved children.

Ransom is due at an initial court hearing on Wednesday.
