DUI Suspect Gets Taco Bell Drive-Thru After Fatal Hit-and-Run: Cops
Robert Loranger, 66, was legally drunk and was in possession of pill bottles and crack cocaine after he killed Harry Fernandez Friday morning, cops say.
A Massachusetts man hit up a Taco Bell drive-thru last week after cops say he was involved in a fatal hit-and-run.
Springfield police arrested 66-year-old Robert Loranger and charged him with motor vehicle homicide while under the influence of alcohol after Harry Fernandez, 51, was killed while crossing the street Friday morning.
Cops said Loranger was barely able to speak once they tracked down his white Cadillac at his home, where they allegedly discovered hair, blood and tissue embedded in the heavily damaged windshield.
Sgt. John Delaney with the Springfield Police Department told InsideEdition.com that police reported finding about a dozen pill bottles in the vehicle as well as crack cocaine in a container attached to Loranger's key chain.
The arrest report also states that Loranger attempted to dispose of a cola bottle as police arrived and that they determined the bottle contained rum.
Police tracked down Loranger after a Taco Bell employee reported seeing Loranger's damaged Cadillac in the drive-thru just minutes after Fernandez was struck in a crosswalk.
The Taco Bell is located about a quarter mile away from the scene of the crime.
After being informed of Fernandez's death at the time of his arrest, cops say Loranger angrily asked them: "Why wasn't I told this?"
During his arraignment in district court Monday, Loranger pleaded not guilty to motor vehicle homicide while under the influence of alcohol, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and possession of crack cocaine.
The retiree is at an area hospital rather than jail because he injured himself when his car struck a tree following the alleged hit-and-run, Delaney said.
Delaney said Loranger was expected to be booked into jail sometime Tuesday morning.
