7-Year-Old Gets Permission to Start Mom's Car, Accidentally Runs Over Little Sister: Report

Police in Salem, New Hampshire say the girl was able to put the car into reverse while her mom was in the house.
A New Hampshire toddler was airlifted to a hospital this week after her 7-year-old sister accidentally ran over her while behind the wheel of the family car, according to a report.
The Salem Police Department says the girl was given permission by her mother to start the car while the mother was still inside the house.
After turning the key, police say the girl was able to shift the vehicle into reverse.

The vehicle then ran over the girl's 2-year-old sister, who had followed the 7-year-old outside, according to police.
The car continued to roll until it hit a neighbor's home.
The victim reportedly suffered injuries to her legs, chin, scalp, rib cage and upper arm in the accident.
The girl’s mother came to aid her daughter when she heard the 7 year-old scream for help. A neighbor who witnessed the aftermath also came over to assist, Salem police said in a statement.

Paramedics initially took the girl to an area hospital before she was air-lifted to Boston Children’s Hospital.
"At this stage in the investigation it appears this was not the first time the 7 year-old was allowed to start the vehicle," the police statement said.
Cops said they are working with the New Hampshire Division of Children, Youth and Families.
