3 Men Arrested, Including a Father and Son, in Shooting Death of Olympic Sprinter's Daughter

Three men, including a father and son, were arrested in connection with the shooting death of Tyson's Gay's teen daughter Trinity on Sunday.

Three men have been arrested in connection with the death of Olympic runner Tyson Gay’s teen daughter Trinity, who was killed in a shootout outside a Kentucky restaurant early Sunday.

Father and son Chazerae Taylor, 38, and D’Markeo Taylor, 19, were charged with wanton endangerment in the shooting. D'Vonta Middlebrooks, 21, was hit with wanton endangerment and weapons charges.

Police said Middlebrooks fired multiple shots during the shootout.

Trinity, 15, was shot in the neck by a stray bullet in the early morning hours at the Cookout restaurant when men in two separate vehicles exchanged gunfire in the parking lot. The suspects then fled the scene, according to police.

Trinity died later in the hospital.

Police reportedly found the two vehicles involved in the incident and are still investigating.

Trinity, like her father, was a track star at her Kentucky high school. She was a state runner-up in the 100-meter dash in middle school. She also was the Region 6AAA champion in the 200-meter last spring.

Gay expressed complete shock in the hours after the tragedy.

“She didn't make it. I'm so confused. She was just here last week for fall break. It's so crazy. I have no idea what happened,” Tyson told Lex 18.

Her mom, Shoshana Boyd, told the Daily News that her daughter "was so innocent.”

"I just want people to stop shooting and realize who they’re hurting. It’s just random. They don’t understand. They don’t understand who they’re hurting." Boyd said.

Fayette County Public Schools Superintendent Emmanuel Caulk also released a statement.

"Our hearts are broken this morning over the loss of Trinity to this tragic and senseless act of violence," Caulk said.
