Attention Choppers! Suspected Drunk Driver Crashes Into Medical Helicopter, Cops Say
A New Mexico man was allegedly drunk when police say he crashed through a barricade and hit an ambulance and a helicopter.
A New Mexico motorist was arrested early Monday after cops say he drove around a barricade and smashed into an EMS helicopter while under the influence of alcohol.
The McKinley County Sheriff's Office said the helicopter and an ambulance were responding to a man injured in an unrelated accident on Highway 566 near the town of Gallup.

Two fire vehicles were used to block the scene from traffic when authorities say a car driven by Glenn Livingston plowed through the roadblock, first striking the helicopter, which tipped over from the impact.
The helicopter had not yet taken off, and its engine was not running, at the time of the crash. However, it was rendered useless for evacuating the accident victim.
According to police, Livingston's Jeep SUV then continued on to hit the ambulance before coming to a halt.

Paramedics were forced to drive the victim of the original accident to a hospital rather than airlift him. Despite some initial worries, specifically about the seriousness of his injuries and distance to the hospital, the victim is expected to pull through.
Livingston refused a field sobriety test and subsequently refused to undergo a blood alcohol test. He was arrested on suspicion of DWI.
