'I'm Not Going to Shut Up About It': Man Beats Girlfriend, Tries to Rip Out Her Tongue, Cops Say
A man tried to rip out his girlfriend's tongue and bite off her fingers, the victim said.
An Indiana woman is in intensive care after her boyfriend savagely beat her and tried to rip out her tongue, authorities said.
Carleigh Hager, 25, sustained a fractured face bone, bleeding on the brain, multiple bite marks and head cuts open to her skull, court documents obtained by WTHR-TV said.
In an interview with the station from her hospital bed, the battered woman said she would not be silent about the attack. “I feel like I’m not going to shut up about it, either. I feel like I’m just gonna keep preaching it so long as I live."
Ryan Cameron, 26, made his first court appearance Wednesday in Indianapolis. He is charged with two counts of aggravated battery and one count of strangulation.
Hager had more than 20 bite marks over her body, her family said. Cameron allegedly choked her, threw her into a door frame, banged her head repeatedly against a bathtub and sink and dragged her through the couple’s house, relatives said.
Hager said the two had been at a wedding Saturday and argued over leaving. Cameron was intoxicated, she said, and they fought on the ride home.
Ryan invited friends over and Hager went to bed, her family said in a GoFundMe post to raise money to cover her hospital bills. Ryan later came into the bedroom, locked the door and began beating and choking Hager, relatives said.
The man’s friends broke down the bedroom door, but Ryan began fighting with them and pushed them out of the house and locked the front door, Hager’s family said.
They called 911. Police arrived and found Hager covered in blood, according to court documents.
Hager said she had lost consciousness during the attack.
Ryan faces up to 34 years in prison. His trial is scheduled to begin December 19. He is being held at the Marion County Jail. It was not clear whether bail had been set.
