Hillary Clinton Returns to Washington After 'a Few Weeks of Taking Selfies in the Woods'
She paid tribute to retiring Senator Harry Reid.
On Thursday, Hillary Clinton returned to Washington, D.C., for the first time since her historic loss to Donald Trump in the November election, and came back with a few zingers.
Clinton was speaking at Capitol Hill to pay tribute to former colleague Senator Harry Reid, who is retiring at the end of the year.
She said: “This is not exactly the speech at the Capitol I hoped to be giving after the election. But after a few weeks of taking selfies in the woods, I thought it would be a good idea to come out.”
Clinton also paid her respects to astronaut and former Ohio Senator, John Glenn.
The former New York senator said Glenn was "a friend to many of us and a genuine American hero... I am sure the tributes will be flowing and I am sure the congressional record will be filled with pages of appreciation and recognition of this extraordinary American’s life."
Inside the Kennedy Caucus Room of the iconic building, Clinton helped unveil a portrait of Reid, who served as the Democratic Party leader for 12 years.
Also in attendance was Clinton’s running mate, Virginia Senator Tim Kaine, and New York Senator Chuck Schumer. Her campaign chairman John Podesta was also in attendance, as well as longtime aide Huma Abedin.
