'Star Wars' Actress Carrie Fisher Dies at Age 60, Days After Heart Attack
The Star Wars actress suffered a heart attack while on a flight from London to Los Angeles on Friday.
Carrie Fisher has died at the age of 60, her family said in a statement Tuesday.
The actress, best known for her role as Star Wars' Princess Leia, suffered a massive heart attack while on a flight from London to Los Angeles on Friday.
On Tuesday, a family spokesperson released a statement on behalf of Fisher's daughter, Billie Lourd.
"It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning," family spokesman Simon Halls said in a statement shared by People.
"She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers."
On Friday, Fisher, the daughter of actress/singer Debbie Reynolds and entertainer Eddie Fisher, reportedly suffered a heart attack 15 minutes before her flight landed at LAX.
Her plane was met by medical personnel after the pilot reportedly told control that one of the nurses on board the flight was tending to an "unresponsive passenger."
The nurse performed life-saving measures on Fisher, who was rushed to UCLA Medical Center once the flight landed.
Reynolds took to Twitter over the weekend to thank supporters and to say that her daughter was in stable condition.
Fisher was returning to Los Angeles after a book tour of her latest autobiography.
She recently reprised her role as Princess Leia in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Aside from her work in the four installments of the sci-fi epic, she starred in Woody Allen’s Hannah and Her Sisters, The ‘Burbs and When Harry Met Sally.
In recent years, Fisher appeared in guest roles on TV shows like Sex and the City, Smallville and Weeds.
She went on to pen two memoirs, 2009’s Wishful Drinking – which evolved into a stage production of the same name – and The Princess Diarist, which she released just last month.
