Todd Fisher Opens Up About Loss of Mother Debbie Reynolds, a Day After Sister Carrie Fisher's Death
The 58-year-old was planning his sister's funeral with their mother when his mother suffered a reported stroke.
As the world mourned the loss of Carrie Fisher, the news that her mother, the passing of famed actress Debbie Reynolds a day later has come as nothing short of a shock.
“She was very peaceful and quiet," Reynolds’ son, Todd Fisher, told ABC News. "It happened very gently."
The legendary 84-year-old actress was rushed to Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles late Wednesday afternoon after suffering a reported stroke.
The actress was with her son, Todd Fisher, discussing funeral plans for her daughter. He said her final words were: “I want to be with Carrie.”
Then she was gone.
“I don't think she really meant it quite like that," her 58-year-old son told ABC News. "But... she went to go see her again."
He added: "She loved taking care of my sister more than anything. So, she gets to do that and that's what she wanted to do.”
Reynolds’ death leaves many to wonder if the iconic Singin’ in the Rain star had died of a broken heart since mother and daughter were incredibly close.
They lived next door to each other and their relationship is depicted in the forthcoming HBO documentary, Bright Lights, which is slated to air next year on the network.
HBO Documentary Films president Sheila Nevins told Variety following Reynolds’ passing that the movie is “a love story.” She added: “Carrie wanted to make Bright Lights for Debbie and Debbie wanted to make it for Carrie.”
The one-two punch has devastated the Star Wars actress’ daughter Billie Lourd, who lost her mother and grandmother in such a short time.
Fisher’s Star Wars co-star Mark Hamill summed up both of the stars’ deaths in a tweet that was captioned: “#CruelCruelYear” and features a man on the top of a cliff kicking the number 6 off of it as he stands next to a sign that reads: “2017.”
