Boy, 6, Killed and Girl, 5, Critically Injured in Dog Attack While on Their Way to School Bus
They were on their way to school.
A young boy has been killed and a young girl critically injured after they were mauled by three dogs in Atlanta Tuesday morning, according to police.
The attack reportedly occurred when the kids were walking to their school bus stop.
Shamonta Clayton, who lives in the neighborhood, told 11Alive he was awoken by the sound of screams.
"I knew it had to be something serious because this is the time the kids go to school," Clayton told the station.
He said he then ran off the dog.
"The mother was standing there screaming. She couldn't pick the child up, so I picked his body up and carried him to the ambulance," Clayton said.
A third child sustained minor injuries in the attack, police said.
The owner of the dogs, Cameron Tucker, was arrested and charged with two counts of reckless conduct.
Animal control officers later took the dogs into custody.
