Donald Trump Tells Democrats Boycotting His Inauguration: Give Me Your Tickets
'I don't want the celebrities there. I want the people there,' Trump spouted.
With just two days to go before the inauguration, Donald Trump is blasting the 55 Democratic members of Congress who are boycotting his swearing-in ceremony.
He told Fox and Friends host Ainsley Earhardt Wednesday: “I hope they give me their tickets."
In the interview, he also doubled down on his feud with Civil Rights icon John Lewis, which sparked the boycott.
“He [Lewis] got caught in a very bad lie, so let's see what happens. As far as other people not going, that's OK because we need seats so badly," Trump said.
Trump referenced Lewis’ claim that his inauguration would be the first he would miss, despite skipping George W. Bush’s swearing in in 2001. His office claimed Lewis had forgotten the incident.
Trump fired back on Fox and Friends saying: “You don’t forget something like that.”
Many Hollywood A-listers have also planned to boycott the inauguration and the president-elect is totally OK with it.
"Many of the celebrities that said they are not going... they were never invited," Trump said. "I don't want the celebrities there. I want the people there."
Trump kicked off inauguration ceremonies with a black tie dinner in Washington, D.C., Tuesday night.
It was a whirlwind visit to the capital. He arrived in the nation’s capital on Trump Force One at about 8 p.m., jetting back to New York City two-and-a-half hours later. Future first lady Melania Trump did not accompany him on the trip.
As Trump was having his dinner in the capitol, protesters took to the streets of Washington outside the newly opened Trump International Hotel.
The hotel was the scene of a gruesome incident, when a protester was hospitalized after setting himself on fire Tuesday night, according to reports.
The victim suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Protesters near the blaze took to Twitter and reported that the man was allegedly attempting self-immolation, but that has not yet been confirmed by authorities.
