Before She Was Famous: Oscar Nominee Emma Stone Seen in Rare Videos From Her Childhood
The starlet got into acting as a way to conquer debilitating anxiety.
As La La Land makes Academy Award history with 14 nominations, rarely seen videos are showing the musical side of one of its stars at a very young age.
As Emma Stone basks in the glory of her second Oscar nod, Inside Edition has gotten a rare look at the actress before she was famous.
At 14, she played an evil step-sister in a stage production of Cinderella, following that up with a starring role in The Little Mermaid.
She was just 10 years old when she joined the Valley Youth Theater in Phoenix, Arizona. She used acting to conquer debilitating anxiety she suffered as a child.
"To be able to take that anxiety and channel it into a performance, to create a character, I think she was brilliant at that and the rewards are coming her way," Bobb Cooper, the theater's artistic director, told Inside Edition.
La La Land, starring Stone and Ryan Gosling, has tied the nomination record held by Titanic and All About Eve. Gosling received a Best Actor nomination for his role.
And the musical, directed by Damien Chazelle, is not the first Oscar-nominated film Stone, 28, has appeared in.
She also starred in the Academy Award-winning film Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), as well as The Help, which was nominated for Hollywood's highest honor.
Also nominated for Best Picture Tuesday was Lion, which stars Dev Patel of Slumdog Millionaire fame.
The movie is about an adoptive man living in Australia who returns to India to discover his roots.
The smallest star of the picture, 8-year-old Sunny Pawar, who play’s Patel’s character as a child, celebrated his film’s success with a trip to the Empire State Building.
