Greenpeace Demonstrators Unfurl Giant 'Resist' Banner Blocks From White House

Protesters hang 'Resist' banner from construction crane just blocks from the White House.
Greenpeace protesters scaled a 270-foot crane just blocks from the White House Wednesday and unfurled a massive banner bearing the word “Resist.”
Seven demonstrators climbed the crane at a downtown Washington construction site, police said. After several hours, activists dangling from the structure's arm unrolled a 70-foot protest sign.

Greenpeace spokesman Travis Nichols said the environmental group opposes President Donald Trump and his policies.
Police cordoned off the area and were waiting at the bottom of the crane for the demonstrators to come down.

“Safety is our foremost mission,” Capt. Robert Glover of the Metropolitan Police Department told reporters, according to The Associated Press.
Since Trump’s inauguration Friday, mass demonstrations and protests have erupted across the country.
Hundreds of thousands of people marched Saturday in support of women’s rights and against the new president.
Protesters in several cities took to the streets Tuesday night and in opposition to Trump’s executive orders to move forward with the Keystone XL and Dakota Access pipelines.
