Woman Fatally Crushed When Homemade Zip Line Topples Tree: Authorities

Tami McVay suffered head trauma when the tree uprooted along an Oregon river on Saturday.
A day of fun along an Oregon river turned tragic over the weekend when a homemade zip line spanning the waterway caused a tree to uproot and fall, crushing a woman, authorities say.
The Tillamook County Sheriff's Office got a call early Saturday morning about a woman injured while crossing a zip line in a remote location.

First responders and deputies were forced to use ATV's and hiked approximately two miles to the scene, where the victim, 35-year-old Tami McVay, was found with her friend, Joshua Jackson.
The tree struck McVay in the head, causing severe trauma. The line was connected to a wooden plank by a length of rope, the sheriff's office said.
McVay was pronounced dead by medical personnel at the scene.
According to the Tillamook County Sheriff's Office, Jackson said he and Tami were both on a zip line crossing the river when a tree that the zip line was attached to uprooted, landing on them both.
The extent of Jackson's injuries were unclear.
According to her obituary, Alaska native McVay was a mother of three and a lover of the outdoors who held a culinary arts degree.

A celebration of life service has been scheduled for Friday.
