Social media exploded with the decision after critics say the couple lacks chemistry.
One person wrote: “Nick and Vanessa look absolutely miserable together.”
Even the first Bachelorette, Trista Sutter, chimed in, tweeting: “I am always hopeful for happy endings but @vanessagrimaldi doesn't seem happy?”

On the post-show special, After the Final Rose, the couple was asked if they were going to get married. Grimaldi said they were in the process of getting to know each other and taking “baby steps” in their relationship.
The couple spoke to Inside Edition Tuesday following the episode.
"We are not the first couple who has had a bumpy road between the engagement [and] now," Viall said while defending his choice.
Grimaldi added: "It hasn't been easy but we have had great moments too."
