According to reports, police had been called to the Queens home just days before the attack on reports of a domestic dispute.
Sunday was the seventh time cops visited the home of Palaguachi in recent years for domestic squabbles, according to the NYDailyNews.
Palaguachi had two wounds to her right hand, three to her right bicep, one to her right forearm, a big wound to her right shoulder, multiple stab wounds to her face and scrapes to her neck, reports said.
She was also possibly strangled, according to multiple reports.
Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said the meat cleaver was recovered at the scene.
Police have charged Sanchez with second-degree murder.
The city medical examiner is conducting an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
