“I couldn't believe it because I had loved this person and I didn't think it was possible. And I later learned that it was entirely possible,” she told Dr. Phil McGraw in an interview that will air Monday.
Earlier this month, the former O.C. star obtained a court order to stop the sale of the video.
"It was a crime, it is a serious crime to tape people without their knowledge like that and I had made the mistake of putting myself in that situation with the person so I just removed myself from it as quickly as I could," she told Dr. Phil.
“Were you being threatened with the tape?'" Dr. Phil asked.
“It wasn't really a threat at that time," she replied. "It was obviously complete emotional blackmail."
Barton also addressed the breakdown in January, when she was filmed leaning over a fence and screaming about her mother.
"I think it was complete hallucination," she said. "I have no idea what I was talking about."
"Were you seeing something?" Dr. Phil asked.

"Like specks of light and stuff like that," she replied.
The actress says she started hallucinating after somebody slipped her "a cocktail of drugs."
"There's also blackout parts earlier in the night," she said. "The whole part outside is just blackouts."
