Police quickly caught up with Bertram, but authorities say the 41-year-old was not interested in giving up easily.
Cops told the Northwest Florida Daily News that Bertram fled as he was being escorted to the patrol car outside the Publix.
He allegedly then ran through a residential neighborhood, across a highway, and onto a bridge.
"He then jumped off the bridge and to the ground, approximately seven to eight feet below," police said.
As the pursuit continued, cops said they used a Taser on Bertram twice before he was finally subdued.
