Boy, 11, Gets Police Escort Home After 3-Month Stay in Hospital for Baseball-Sized Brain Tumor
Drake Price, 11, has dreams of one day becoming a cop.
It was worth all the sirens and lights when Indiana cops gave an 11-year-old boy a full police escort home after a 3-month hospital stay for treatment for a baseball-sized brain tumor.
Drake Price, 11, of Indianapolis, was released from Riley Hospital for Children Thursday after being a patient at the facility since February.
And traffic on the way home was not about to be a problem.
When the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department caught wind of Drake's fight for his health, they knew the aspiring cop needed a “going away” celebration for the ages.
After showering him with gifts and police memorabilia, Drake exited the hospital to get into the front seat of a police cruiser that escorted him home, as other police cars and motorcycles joined in.
“The coming home party was overwhelming and had us speechless,” his dad, Miles Price told InsideEdition.com. “We are so thankful from the love and support and prayers […] from Drake’s brothers in blue.”
Before he was admitted to the hospital in February, Price said his son had been experiencing migraine and flu symptoms for weeks. Then, Drake had a stroke.
“The doctors tried sending us home but my wife insisted they do a CT scan to find out why,” he said. “That’s when we found out he had a baseball-sized tumor on his brain attached to everything critical in his brain.”
While the tumor was deemed benign, Drake’s stay in the hospital lasted several months.
Now, Drake's family has told InsideEdition.com they couldn't be happier that he's finally home.
