Quick-Thinking Cop Saves 4-Year-Old Boy With Autism Who Fell in Pond
Topeka Police Officer Aaron Bulmer was looking for a group that had been fighting when he saw a 4-year-old boy walking toward water.
A quick-thinking Kansas cop saved the life of a young boy with autism when he jumped in after the child, who had fallen into a pond after being separated from a parent, body camera footage shows.
Topeka Police Officer Aaron Bulmer was looking for a group that had been fighting when he saw a 4-year-old boy walking toward water at the Central Park Community Center about 11:30 a.m. Sunday, officials said.
Bulmer ran toward the little boy, but he fell into the pond before the officer could reach him.
“Hey! Hey!” Bulmer can be heard yelling as he rushes to save the child.

Bulmer quickly jumped in to the water, grabbing the boy and pulling him to safety.
“Got a kid that fell into the pond,” he says to his radio as he carries the boy to a park goer who took the child while Bulmer pulled himself out, the video shows.
The little boy was brought to a nearby hospital to be evaluated and was then reunited with a parent, who had been out looking for their son when the incident occurred, police said.

Officials later learned the boy had autism, authorities said.
“Many times, children with autism are drawn to water, as was displayed in this case,” Topeka Police said in a statement. “Officer Bulmer was in the right place at the right time to save a young life.”
