Ads for New Chloe Grace Moretz Movie Pulled Amid Body-Shaming Backlash
Moretz, who voices Snow White, said she was "just as appalled and angry as everyone else."
An animated film mocking the classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs story has triggered anger after body-shaming claims emerged.
The parody, Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarfs, was recently featured in a movie poster with the tagline, “What if Snow White was no longer beautiful and the seven dwarfs not so short?”
A trailer for the film shows the Show White character kicking off her red heels and transforming into a heavier woman.
The poster also features the skinny Snow White looking appalled at the heavier version of herself.
Model Tess Holliday has called out the poster and marketing of the film on Twitter, asking actress Chloe Grace Moretz, who voices Snow White, why it's being pitched to the public in such a manner.
“How did this get approved by an entire marketing team? Why is it okay to tell young kids being fat = ugly? @ChloeGMoretz,” she tweeted.
“I am just as appalled and angry as everyone else," Moretz said in response. "This wasn't approved by me or my team.”
I have now fully reviewed the mkting for Red Shoes, I am just as appalled and angry as everyone else, this wasn't approved by me or my teamMay 31, 2017
Pls know I have let the producers of the film know. I lent my voice to a beautiful script that I hope you will all see in its entirety https://t.co/IOIXYZTc3gMay 31, 2017
The film’s producers are now apologizing and have pulled the ads.
Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarfs is slated to hit theaters later this year.
