Teen Dances in His Hospital Bed the Moment He Wakes Up From Heart Transplant
Even as Amari Hall, 15, was lying down as a nurse adjusted his IV, nothing could stop him from rocking out from the hospital bed.
When this Baltimore teen woke up following a heart transplant, the first thing he did was dance.
Amari Hall, 15, is seen lying down as a nurse adjusted his IV, but nothing could stop him from rocking out from his hospital bed.
The nurse, Katie, even joins him in dancing, even while clad in full scrubs and a surgical mask.
“He’s always dancing,” said his aunt, Charawn Hunter, who posted the video to Facebook. "If you want to get him to do something, put on some music and say, 'Go Mari.'"
His mom, Kina Hall, told InsideEdition.com that Amari was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect when he was born.
“I was terrified,” Hall said. “Two days after he was born was when he had his first surgical heart repair.”
Amari had his second heart surgery when he was 9 months old, and the third at 2 years old.
Despite the success of the operation, his defect caused him to grow up realizing there were many things he couldn’t do, like play sports with his friends or go to school every day.
“He kind of began to feel separate from his friends,” Hall explained. “We have had conversations before where he felt like, ‘I don’t have everything my friends have. I’m different.’”
About two years ago, his doctors told him his heart was failing and they would have to place him on the transplant list.
In March, Amari finally got the operation he has been waiting for his whole life.
He has since been recovering well, his family said. He was even spotted dancing his way out of the hospital after doctors discharged him.
“He has a large personality, larger than life," said Hunter, his aunt. "Prior to the surgery, he wasn’t able to do a lot of these things. Organ donation saved Amari’s life."
