Manhunt Underway For 2 Inmates Who Overpowered and Fatally Shot Prison Guards: Cops
Donnie Russell Rowe, 43, and Ricky Dubose, 24, overpowered and disarmed the two guards Monday before one of the prisoners killed them.
A manhunt is on for two Georgia inmates who are on the run after killing two prison guards, police said Tuesday morning.
Donnie Russell Rowe, 43, and Ricky Dubose, 24, are believed to have overpowered and disarmed the two guards while 30 inmates were being driven between prisons, Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills said in a statement.
One of the inmates then fatally shot Christopher Monica and Curtis Billue, both officers at Baldwin State Prison, according to the release.
The intense search began after Rowe and Dubose allegedly carjacked a vehicle before fleeing west toward the town of Eatonton.
Both subjects are now armed with the officers’ .40 caliber Glock pistols and believed to be extremely dangerous.
"They are dangerous beyond description," Sheriff Sills said at a press conference Tuesday.
With federal authorities joining state and local agencies in the search, U.S. Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein addressed the manhunt Tuesday morning during a Senate panel in Washington.
"An attack on any American law enforcement officer is an attack on every American law enforcement officer and the principles we all believe in," he said.
Both men are serving lengthy sentences for armed robbery and other crimes.
Dubose has been in prison since July 2015 and is described as white, 6’1 and 140 pounds. Rowe has been in jail since June 2002 and is described as white, 6’1 and 181 pounds.
Anyone who makes any type of contact with the vehicle or either subject is asked to please notify the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.
