Messi, 30, married his childhood sweetheart, Antonella Roccuzzo, in their hometown of Rosario, Argentina. It has now been revealed that the Rosario Food Bank received all the reception leftovers.
“For us any type of donation is very well received and to be honest, we are very happy that they took us into consideration," Rosario Food Bank president Nadia Nazer told local newspaper La Capital. "One of the wedding organizers got in contact with our executive director, Pablo Algrain, to offer us snacks, soft drinks and alcoholic drinks.
“We told them that we had to exchange the alcoholic beverages for money as we cannot give them to institutions,” she added. “We have friends who own bars and they buy them from us and that allows us to transform it into money as a donation to the food bank.”
It remains unclear how much food was left over.
Messi, who has an estimated net worth of $340 million, and his wife told their guests not to give wedding presents, but instead to donate to a South American non-profit organization called Techo, which helps families in the continent and Caribbean living in extreme poverty.
Techo has not released the total proceeds that came from the wedding.

With the 260 guests in attendance, including some of Messi’s current and former F.C. Barcelona teammates like Neymar, Luis Suarez, Samuel Eto’o and Carlos Puyol, the party was dubbed Argentina’s “Wedding of the Century.”
Many of the high profile guests took to social media to post about June 30 nuptials.
Messi and Roccuzzo, who are the same age, have been together since 2008 but have known each other since they were 5 years old. The couple has two children together, Thiago, 5, and Mateo, 2.
