Barbara Weldens was singing on stage at a church in Goudron, in the Lot region of southwest France, when she suddenly collapsed at about midnight Wednesday.
She was performing as part of the Leo Ferre Festival, The Wrap reported.
Paramedics rushed to the rising star’s side, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. She was 35.
Her cause of death was not immediately known, but local reports said she may have gone into cardiac arrest or was electrocuted by equipment as she was performing barefoot.

Investigators plan to determine whether there was an electrical malfunction, according to L’Europe 1.
Surrounded by circus performers as a child, Weldens grew up learning juggling and performing acrobatics and trapeze, her website said.
She was also a poet and had developed an affinity for music at a young age.
“Secretly she began to write and sing,” her bio said.

Weldens’ dreams for pursuing a career in music were put on pause as she focused on circus work, but she returned to music in 2011 and never looked back.
Weldens was set to tour for her debut album, Le Grand H d e l’Homme, across France and Belgium this year. The album received critical praise after its release in February.
She also won a young talent award, the Pic d’Ore prize, in 2016.
“She was a radiant woman, full of energy and talented, and of course we think of all her family and her loved one,” the organizers of the prize said in a statement.
