Widow of NYPD Officer Killed in Ambush Gives Birth to Their Child Nearly 3 Years Later
Sanny Liu, the widow of fallen NYPD Officer Wenjian Liu, used an in vitro fertilization procedure, freezing his sperm to have his baby.
The widow of a NYPD police officer who was killed in the line of duty has given birth to his daughter nearly three years after his death.
Sanny Liu gave birth Tuesday to a healthy little girl who weighed in at six pounds, 13 ounces and was just over 19 inches tall. The newborn was named Angelina.
Angelina is the daughter of Wenjian Liu, who was shot dead along with his partner Rafael Ramos in their patrol car on December 20, 2014 while parked on a Brooklyn street.
At the time of her husband's death, doctors asked Sanny if she wanted to collect his sperm and freeze it so she could have his child one day. At the time, they were married only about three months.
Angelina was born at Weill Cornell Hospital and the NYPD 46th Precinct shared a photo on Twitter of the mother and her new daughter.
In the photo, Angelina is wearing a NYPD knitted beanie while snuggled up next to Liu.
The precinct wished them well, tweeting, “Congratulations to our extended family, we welcome you Angelina Liu, May the angels watch over you.
