Country Music Legend Glen Campbell Dies at 81 After Battle With Alzheimer's

Country music legend Glen Campbell, whose hit singles included "Rhinestone Cowboy," has died at 81, his family said Tuesday.
"It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and legendary singer and guitarist, Glen Travis Campbell, at the age of 81, following his long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease," read a message on his website.
Campbell, who was born in Delight, Ark., in 1936, started out as a session guitarist and played on records by Phil Spector, Frank Sinatra, the Monkees and the Beach Boys.
He went on to sell more than 45 million records of his own, and is best known for "Rhinestone Cowboy," which topped both the country and pop charts in 1975.

Other hits included "By the Time I Get to Phoenix” and “Wichita Lineman." He was also known for "The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour," a TV variety show that aired between 1969 and 1972.
In 2014, his daughter Debby shared a video with Inside Edition showing him playing the guitar at a medical facility in Nashville.
Following the news of his death on Tuesday, a variety of stars paid tribute to the music legend.
"Glen Campbell was one of the greatest voices of all time. I will always love you, Glen!" Dolly Parton wrote on Twitter, as she shared a video message.

He is survived by his wife, their three children and five children from his previous marriages.
