Teen Mom Facing Charges After Baby She Abandoned in Trash Bag Survives 3 Days: Cops

Harriette Hoyt has been charged with attempted murder. Her daughter is in stable condition.
A teenage Pennsylvania mom has been arrested and charged with the attempted murder of her own baby, who was found after surviving for days abandoned inside a plastic bag, cops say.
The 8-month-old girl was discovered early Tuesday afternoon after residents of a neighborhood in Elmira, N.Y., heard what they thought were strange animal noises coming from an adjoining backyard.

Upon inspection, the noise turned out to be a baby, whose legs were reportedly seen dangling out of a plastic bag.
The neighbors called 911 and administered aid until paramedics arrived.
Police praised sisters Kayla and Karen Seals, who made the discovery, for getting help quickly.
"They are truly heroes in this incident," Elmira police Sgt. William Solt told reporters.
While the baby was treated and later listed in stable condition, police began an investigation that they say led them to 17-year-old Harriette M. Hoyt.
Police say they have determined Hoyt, who lives some 20 miles away and across the Pennsylvania border, is the mother of the child.

The teen was arrested and charged with second-degree attempted murder after they say she placed the baby in the yard over the weekend, some 72 hours before she was discovered.
Hoyt has since been arraigned and remains in the Chemung County Jail.
