Mother Left 11-Week-Old Baby in Her Car While She Shopped, Sipped Lemonade: Cops

The Connecticut woman has been charged with risk of injury to a child.
A Connecticut mother turned herself in last week after police said she left her infant alone in her parked car for nearly an hour while she shopped for shoes.
The incident is alleged to have occurred in July, when New Canaan police say 34-year-old Kathryn Ferguson went shopping with her 11-week-old in her SUV while the family's nanny watched the baby's older siblings.

Police say Ferguson subsequently left the baby in her Chevrolet Suburban while she shopped at Shoes ‘N’ More and bought a mint lemonade at Le Pain Quotidien, according to a police report obtained by the Stamford Advocate.
Responding officers determined the child was left in the vehicle, which was turned off and had its windows closed, for about 48 minutes in 85 degree weather, according to police.
Police responded to a call placed by Ferguson herself because the baby was screaming and crying. Ferguson maintained to police that she left the baby alone in the car for only 10 minutes while she shopped.
Ferguson said the baby had been so quiet she forgot the child was in the car.
New Canaan police later obtained an arrest warrant after speaking with shop employees and reviewing video footage.
