Dead End in Natalie Wood Case

INSIDE EDITION reports on the new investigation into the death of movie legend Natalie Wood has found no credible evidence that she was murdered.

The new investigation into the death of movie legend Natalie Wood has found no credible evidence that she was murdered.

But today a key witness, Marilyn Wayne is saying that the announcement the investigation is at a dead end is evidence of a cover up.

Wayne tells INSIDE EDITION, "Let's get to the bottom of this. Let's find out what happened."

Natalie Wood disappeared from this luxury yacht during a raucus Thanksgiving getaway with her husband Robert Wagner and actor Christopher Walken in 1981.

She was found drowned.

The investigation was reopened by the Los Angeles County Sherrif last November. Police sources say several key witnesses were re-interviewed and detectives even went to Hawaii to examine the couple's yacht. But now investigators say they've found nothing new.

The Los Angeles Times is reporting that Chief of Detectives William McSweeney said, "It is an accidental death. Nothing has been discovered to suggest changing that at this time."

But Wayne, who was on another yacht off Catalina Island, says she believes she heard Wood crying for help and a man's voice shouting, 'Hold on, we're coming to get you."

INSIDE EDITION's Jim Moret asked Wayne, "Do you think Robert Wagner was given special treatment by the Sheriff's Department in the initial investigation?"

Wayne responded, "Well it would appear that way. If you or I had a spouse that fell off a boat that was missing for three hours, we would probably be in a courtroom."

Author Mart Rulli, whose new book, Goodbye Splendor, Goodbye Natalie, helped get the investigation re-opened, claims that crucial evidence is being ignored by invstigators.

Rulli tells INSIDE EDITION, "They have just scratched the surface of the information that they have been handed and I think there is a long road ahead that its not going to be over in the near future."

Now that a new investigation has stalled, Wood's death is likely to remain one of Hollywood's most enduring mysteries.
