INSIDE EDITION reports from Cartagena, Colombia, where the Secret Service scandal took place, and uncovers details about the woman at the center of the storm.
The woman who unwittingly triggered the worst scandal in Secret Service history lives in Cartagena, Colombia. INSIDE EDITION's Les Trent reports from Cartagena where the mystery woman at the center of the scandal lives.
Her apartment is a modest two room place, exactly like her neighbor's apartment. She is known only as Dania. She reportedly has a 9-year-old son. Neighbors say they suspected she had been working as an escort because she was apparently living well.
Trent asked photographer Todd Maisel Nydn what he's heard about Dania.
"She sounds like she's just trying to take care of a young child, and trying to make a living for herself. And in this case, she's a beautiful woman," said Nydn.
Dania has lived there for six months. But she wasn't home when Trent knocked on the door. She has reportedly gone into hiding. Before going underground, Dania told The New York Times she's fearful of retaliation.
"I'm scared. This is something really big. This is the government of the United States. I have nervous attacks. I cry all the time," she said.
She gave The New York Times the first detailed account of her encounter with the Secret Service agent. She said her price for spending the night with him at the luxury hotel was $800. Why so much?
"It's like when you buy a fine rum or a Blackberry or iPhone. They have a different price," she said.
But the next morning, he refused to pay.
"I tell him, 'Baby, my cash money,' " said Dania.
After the police were called, she says several Secret Service agents chipped in and handed her $225. She describes herself as an escort, different from street walkers.
Dania said, "You have higher rank. An escort is someone who a man can take out to dinner. She can dress nicely, wear nice makeup, speak and act like a lady. That's me."
