Five of the victims who were killed in Tuesday's New York City terrorist attack were former high school classmates.
The tourists were visiting from Argentina to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their graduation when authorities say Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov plowed through a bike lane on Manhattan's West Side, killing at least eight people and injuring 11 others.
The Argentinian victims were identified as Hernán Diego Mendoza, Diego Enrique Angelini, Alejandro Damián Pagnucco, Ariel Erlij and Hernán Ferruchi, according to Argentina's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Martín Ludovico Marro, a Massachusetts resident, was traveling with the Argentinians and is recovering at a hospital after he was injured in the attack.
Also among those killed was a Belgian tourist, according to the country's deputy spokesman of foreign affairs, Matthieu Branderssay.
Five patients were rushed to the hospital and two were taken into surgery, officials told CBS News.
According to investigators, Saipov rented the pickup truck that he then drove into a crowded bike path.
Witnesses said the driver of the rented Home Depot truck struck several people and then emerged from the vehicle screaming "Allahu Akbar," Arabic for "God is Great," while carrying a weapon in each hand, authorities said.
He leased the vehicle at the home repair chain's Passaic, N.J., location, according to report
Saipov was armed with a paintball gun and a pellet gun that were recovered at the scene, NYPD Commissioner James O'Neill told reporters Tuesday evening.
Saipov is a truck driver who came to the U.S. in 2010 from Uzbekistan, CBS News reported. His most recent address was in Tampa, Fla., and he also had addresses in Ohio and New Jersey since immigrating to America.
"This was an act of terrorism... aimed at innocent civilians," New York Mayor Bill de Blasio said. "This action was intended to break our spirit."
But that will never happen, the mayor added.
President Trump weighed in several times on Twitter, including a post that read, "NOT IN THE U.S.A.!"
The driver was shot in the abdomen by a police officer on the scene and is being treated at a hospital.
Police say the suspect acted alone.
