The 2014 Academy Awards were announced with some surprises and a few snubs. INSIDE EDITION has more.
It's a battle between American Hustle and Gravity. Both got 10 Oscar nominations and 12 Years a Slave was right behind with nine.
Thor star Chris Hemsworth announced the nominations along with the president of the Academy, Cheryl Boone Isaacs.
Isaacs told INSIDE EDITION, "It's been a tremendous year, both in front and behind the camera. It's been wonderful."
This was Meryl Streep's 18th Academy Award nomination. That's a new record.
The real Cinderella story at this year's Academy Awards is first-time actor and first-time nominee, Barkhad Abdi from Captain Phillips. INSIDE EDITION's Jim Moret caught up with him at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills.

The Somalian born actor was working as a limo driver before before auditioning for the part of the Somalian priate in the movie Captain Phillips.
INSIDE EDITION's Jim Moret asked Abdi, "Has this been like a dream for you?"
Abdi said, "Yeah, it's going like a dream. Actually, better than a dream."
Two veteran actors got well-deserved nominations for the black & white film, Nebraska. Bruce Dern is 77, and co-star June Squibb is 81.
Moret asked Squibb, "Does it make it so much sweeter that you and Bruce Dern are both nominated for this film that you're so passionate about?"
"Oh, yeah. We did it together. We really did," replied Squibb.
There were big snubs for Robert Redford and Tom Hanks.
Tom O'Neil, Editor of Gold Derby told INSIDE EDITION. "Tom Hanks got snubbed twice. He was not only in the running for Captain Phillips, but he was also in the running for Supporting Actor for Saving Mr. Banks. It's really shocking to think that Tom Hanks could be ignored by the Academy, where he's a leader."
Most people expected Oprah Winfrey to get a nomination for Lee Daniel's The Butler, but she got snubbed too.
Pete Hammond of Deadline.com told INSIDE EDITION, "Big surprise for Oprah. Oprah is not the queen of all media that we thought, at least when it comes to the Oscars this year."
Where was Oprah today when the nominations were announced? She just instagrammed a photo of herself in her garden with the caption, "Harvesting beautiful greens, even in January."
