Amy Purdy's Inspiring Journey On Two Prosthetic Legs
Dancing with the Stars finalist and amputee Amy Purdy sat down with INSIDE EDITION to discuss her inspiring autobiography.
Amy Purdy inspired America when she danced her way to the finals on Dancing with the Stars and she did it all on two prosthetic legs
Now, she's sharing her extraordinary journey in a new book, On My Own Two Feet.
It happened when she was 19. She had viral meningitis.
She told INSIDE EDITION, “I started to feel like I was coming down with the flu. Within 24 hours I was on life support.”
“They told my parents I had about two hours left to live,” Purdy said.
She survived, but the infection cost her both her legs. Even with that handicap, she returned to snowboarding, the sport she loved.

Purdy said, “I had to get really creative with my legs. I had to put different pieces together. My leg maker and I would put different ankle pieces together, different toe pieces together, a bunch of duct tape and wood. We ended up making a pair of feet I could snowboard in."
