Dad Makes Daughter Walk 5 Miles to School to Punish Her for Bullying

The video is stirring up debate about whether the father went too far.

An Ohio father has gone viral for the interesting way he punished his daughter for bullying, making her walk 5 miles to school.

Matt Cox wanted to teach his daughter a lesson after she had been kicked off the school bus for three days for bullying another student. It was the second time she’d gotten into trouble for picking on someone.

Now, people are questioning whether the punishment was too harsh.

“My beautiful daughter is going to walk five miles to school in 36-degree weather,” Cox can be heard saying in a video he recorded while driving behind her as she walked. “She said, 'Daddy you're gonna have to take me to school next week.'

"As you see this morning, she is learning otherwise," he added.

The video has been viewed by millions.

"Parents need to hold their kids accountable, so, that was me showing how I am holding my kid accountable," Cox told WTVG.

His daughter said she has been bullied too, adding, "I was bullied many times by bigger kids than me." She admitted that she was "sad" after being bullied.

“Bullying is unacceptable, especially in my household,” Cox said.

Some parents congratulated Cox saying, “Well done” and “good job dad.” Others thought the punishment was too harsh, but Cox is sticking to his guns.

“I know a lot of you parents are not going to agree with this, but that is all right,” he said.

Cox later clarified, however, that 5 miles was the total amount his daughter walked over the three-day span.
