Gymnast Aly Raisman Comes Forward With Sexual Abuse Claims Against Team USA Doctor
Dr. Larry Nassar was previously accused of similar crimes by Raisman's teammate, McKayla Maroney.
In a bombshell accusation, Olympic great Aly Raisman says she was sexually abused by the former U.S. women's gymnastics team doctor.
"I am angry. I'm really upset because it's been — I care a lot, you know, when I see these young girls that come up to me, and they ask for pictures or autographs, whatever it is, I just — I can't — every time I look at them, every time I see them smiling, I just think — I just want to create change so that they never, ever have to go through this,” she told 60 Minutes in an interview airing Sunday.
The 23-year-old Raisman joins other teammates, including McKayla Maroney, in accusing Dr. Larry Nassar of sexual abuse under the guise of treatment.
Raisman says she was just 15 when it happened.
“Why are we looking at, 'Why didn't the girls speak up?' Why not look at, 'What about the culture?' What did USA gymnastics do and Larry Nassar do, to manipulate these girls so much that they are so afraid to speak up?” she asked in the 60 Minutes interview.
Raisman was captain of the 2012 and 2016 U.S. women's gymnastics teams.
Maroney came forward last month, claiming she was sexually abused by Nassar, beginning when she was just 13 years old.
“I had a dream to go to the Olympics and the things I had to endure to get there were unnecessary and disgusting,” she wrote in a statement she posted to social media.
