A man who was busted for allegedly riding his horse on a Louisiana highway after drinking said he thought it was a good idea because "the horse knows the way home," according to reports.
Jake Williams allegedly drove his truck and horse trailer to a daiquiri shop in Denham Springs and opted to ride the horse, Sugar, back home instead of driving, according to police.
Police stopped him and he was issued a summons for disturbing the peace by intoxication. The Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office said riding a horse does not qualify the man for a DWI.
But Williams told WBRZ-TV that he felt riding the horse was a good idea: "When you get a little too much to drink, why not ride a horse? It's safer that way. The horse knows the way home."
A family member was ordered to take Williams and his horse home.
Williams said he learned his lesson from the incident and will not ride his horse when intoxicated in the future.
