Vice President Joe Biden spoke to a rapt audience in the Rose Garden of the White House on Wednesday, where he announced he would not run for president
Citing the recent death of his son Beau and too little time to campaign, Vice President Joe Biden announced Wednesday that he will not run for President of the United States.
"My family has suffered loss," he told a rapt audience in the White House Rose Garden just after noon.

While he said those wounds were beginning to heal, Biden said the window to run a successful presidential campaign has closed. "I believe we're out of time," he said.
"While not a candidate, I will not be silent,' Biden said with President Obama and his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, at his side. "I intend to influence as much as I can where we stand as a party and where we need to go as a nation."

Biden went on to applaud the work he and President Obama have put into closing the gap between the rich and poor.
Biden also revealed what he'll do with his life going forward: work toward curing the disease that prematurely killed his son.
"If I could be anything I would want to be the President of Ending Cancer," he said.
