Thailand Cave Rescue: 8th Boy Emerges on Second Day of Dangerous Mission

The unidentified boys were seen Monday being carried out of the Tham Luang Nang Non cave on stretchers and into ambulances before being airlifted to the Chiang Rai Pranukroh Hospital.

Four more members of a youth soccer team trapped in a Thailand cave complex have been rescued, leaving just four more boys and their coach left underground waiting to be saved, authorities said.

The unidentified boys were carried out of the Tham Luang Nang Non cave on stretchers and into ambulances Monday before being airlifted to the Chiang Rai Pranukroh Hospital.

Four of the boys’ teammates and Thai dive experts were flown to the same hospital for treatment the day before.

The second rescue involved many of the same divers who evacuated the first four boys Sunday, former Chiang Rai governor Narongsak Osotthanakorn told reporters.

After pausing the operation for about 10 hours, the second rescue began at about 11 a.m. local time, with the last boy seen being taken out of the cave around 7:40 p.m., according to reports.

Twelve members of the Wild Boars Football Club, boys between the ages of 11 and 16, and their 25-year-old coach first vanished on June 23. The group set out to explore the cave complex, but became trapped by rising waters.

Officials said Sunday it may "take days" to bring the entire group to the surface. Each boy is being accompanied by two divers and it takes about two hours to navigate the flooded and dark tunnels.

Rescuers are racing to beat the next rain, which could make their efforts more difficult and dangerous.

The remaining boys and their coach are expected to have to wait at least another day before rescuers continue extraction attempts.
