Since he was paralyzed in a wrestling match in 2013, Hunter Garstin has made leaps and bounds in his recovery.
The Tennessee teen has refused to let the spinal cord injury that initially left him with no feeling from his chest down stop him from reaching major milestones.
The teen, steadfast in improving, can take unassisted steps, release a hand as he stands and in his most recent accomplishment, go to prom.
Garstin suited up, met his date Kinsey McCarthey, and went to the Independence High School’s prom on Saturday, WKRN-TV reported.
The pair was all smiles as they posed for photos that featured Garstin standing with the assistance of a walker. Garstin had extra reasons to celebrate the achievement as the teen was nominated prom prince at the dance.
Since the 2013 incident, Garstin has made several trips to Switzerland for a special stem cell treatment that’s not readily available in the U.S.
Each trip to Switzerland costs about $20,000.
The trips have been made possible by donations by the people who have supported him, Garstin told the television station.
