Zuzu, a 2-year-old German shepherd mix who lit up with joy when she spotted her owners at the animal shelter in December only to be rebuffed, has found a new home.
Her story went viral after her original owners ditched Zuzu because she was too depressed and they wanted a happier new dog.
But since her story got out, the future has been bright for Zuzu.
“We had so many inquiries about her,” Diana Edwards Boucher, who volunteers with Pet Adoption Fund, told Inside Edition.
The Pet Adoption Fund is a no-kill shelter that took Zuzu from the Downey Animal Care Center, where she was first taken by her former owners.
Zuzu has now been adopted by Russ and Judith Gallo. The couple already has a dog named Dodger and was looking for a new buddy after their other pet passed away.
Introductions took place outside the family's home in Los Angeles recently and the two dogs hit it off.
"Wagging tails, that's a good sign!" Boucher said. "We think we found the perfect match here!"
The owners say they knew they were meant to be with Zuzu after watching the viral video.
Russ said: "It broke my heart to see that they had to interest in her."
Judith added: "Something just kind of told us, hey, we got to do something here."
