Widow of Orlando Massacre Shooter Arrested in San Francisco By FBI Agents, Charged with Aiding and Abetting

Noor Salman was arrested in San Francisco, where she moved after last year's mass shooting at a Florida nightclub.

Noor Salman, the widow of the man who mowed down 49 people at a gay nightclub, has been arrested in San Francisco, according to the FBI.

Salman, 30, was arrested at her home in the Bay Area, agency spokesman Prentice Danner told InsideEdition.com.

Salman had been interviewed multiple times following her husband's attack, federal authorities said. Omar Mateen, 29, was killed in a shootout with SWAT team members nearly three hours after he opened fire at the crowded club.

He had pledged allegiance to ISIS online.

She was charged with aiding and abetting, CBS News reported, as well as obstruction of justice, in the worst mass shooting in U.S. history.

The couple were married in California in 2011 and have a 4-year-old son.

“Noor Salman had no foreknowledge nor could she predict what Omar Mateen intended to do that tragic night,” her awyer, Linda Moreno, said in a statement.

“Noor has told her story of abuse at his hands. We believe it is misguided and wrong to prosecute her and that it dishonors the memories of the victims to punish an innocent person.”

In a November interview with The New York Times, Salman claimed her husband had long physically and verbally abused her, and that she knew nothing of his plans to attack the Pulse nightclub.

Orlando Police chief Mohn Mina said in a statement he relieved to hear of Salman's arrest.

"Nothing can erase the pain we all feel about the senseless and brutal murders of 49 of our neighbors, friends, family members and loved ones," he said.

"But today, there is some relief in knowing that someone will be held accountable for that horrific crime," Mina said.

Salman petitioned a court last month to change her boy's name so he would not be identified as the mass killer's son.

Federal agents have considered filing charges against the woman for months after she told investigators she had previously driven Mateen to the club, and had been with him when he purchased guns and ammunition, authorities said.
